Trusts work closer for the benefit of nature

12 Sep 2008

Staff and trustees of the six Wildlife Trusts in Wales are meeting to discuss ways in which they can work more closely together for the benefit of nature conservation.

The first all-Wales conference will take place at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells on Saturday, September 20. The six trusts - Brecknock, Gwent, Montgomeryshire, North Wales, Radnorshire, and South & West Wales - have a common agenda. They are all signed up to the Wildlife Trusts Wales Conservation Plan - a detailed blueprint for protecting species and habitats - and have been working together on Wales-wide projects.

The importance of co-operative working is growing all the time. The trusts recently appointed a Wildlife Trusts Wales Director of Programmes to oversee and promote more of a partnership approach. The conference has two basic aims: to explore how shared aspirations can be accommodated and delivered through an evolving Wales Conservation Plan; and to establish better and more regular contact between trustees and staff as a basis for effective partnership working.
